Health Benefits of
Tennis
By Jack L. Groppel, Ph.D.
Is it any wonder that scientists and physicians
around the world view tennis as the most healthful activity in which you can participate? There may be other sports
that can provide excellent health benefits and some which can provide mental and emotional growth. But no sport other
than tennis has ever been acclaimed from all disciplines as one that develops great benefits physically, mentally and emotionally.
Tennis is a sport for kids to learn early in
life. What parent wouldn’t want their children to get these benefits through their growing years?
Here’s the key… you must begin playing tennis
now to get these benefits throughout your lifetime. And that brings us to reason #34: Tennis is truly the sport for a lifetime!
It’s been proven.

Tennis is Family fun! "Get in the Game"!
The Rowlett Tennis Association
was founded in September of 2002. We are proud of our achievements over the past few year including the following milestones:
- Awarded the “ Small Town Community Tennis Association Achievement Award” by the Texas Section
of the USTA in our first year.
- Recieved
"Start-Up" and "Grow the Game" Grants from the Texas - USTA.
- Received a Pathway Grant for 2004 from the USTA.
- Completed over a dozen USTA school assembly programs using rackets supplied by the USTA.
- RTA clubhouse was built to supply our members with
all of their tennis needs including, affordable strings, grips, clothing, and shoes. The Clubhouse was built with RTA funds,
member labor, donations and help from D R Horton Homes and Spenser Electric. Wayne and Denise Rand donated a security system.
- The RTA has been working with the City of Rowlett and the USTA to promote and
provide long term planning to fund a Regional Tennis Facility in Rowlett.
- The RTA currently has over 125 dues paying members, the majority are family memberships.
- We have involved over 450 participants in our junior programs and adult leagues, drills
and lessons.
- The RTA
sponsored numerous events including the RTA Tennis Stampede, USTA Rock and Rally and Festival of Freedom Parade and booth.
- Scholarship Program 2004 - RTA will award $1000 in scholarships
to graduating seniors of Rowlett High School
We would like to thank the USTA Texas Section,
all RTA members, Board of Directors and our tennis professionals for their continued support in our sucess.
